Votum Talisman Workshop with Cathie Blackstone

  • Barn at the Homestead Petaluma, CA (map)

Join us at the barn in the Homestead with sculptor and jewelry designer, Cathie Blackstone and learn how to put your own intentions, desires, and hopes into a work of art.

Votum (def.: latin, vow, prayer, desire, wish, solemn promise, hope)

Choose from an assortment of unique amulets, beads, and charms (all handmade by Cathie) and create your very own votum talisman. Learn how to arrange and string onto a natural hemp cord, finished with a unique knot or simple tassel. Each votum talisman includes a wooden wall peg, and burlap gift bag. Approximate dimensions: 12” h x 6” w x 2” d, beads are ½” to 2” in diameter.

Humans have a relationship with beads that goes back as far as 142,000 years. We continue to use beads in symbolic ways for ritual, adornment, and trade. They are part of our everyday life. Beads made of natural materials - stone, clay, bone, wood, metal, and glass - are grounded and hold the energy of the person that holds and wears it. Amulets are thoughtfully created for actualizing wishes, dreams, hopes, and promises, and can be used for holding in one’s hand, draping on a table, or hanging on a wall.

With the holidays coming up, this is the perfect time to make an unmatched gift for someone you love. So special in fact you may want to keep it for yourself! (Shhh.)

Workshop cost includes what you need for one Votum talisman, wooden wall peg and burlap bag.

Additional talisman kits available for $50 for those who love it so much they end up making more — make them in class or take them to go!

Limited spaces available, so sign up fast!
