Join interior designer and collector, Christian Wright, who will show us how to make your very own memory jug.
Start collecting pieces now for the upcoming class to create this one-of-a-kind piece of incredible memorabilia that is sure to become a treasured object in your home.
The memory jug is an African American folk-art form that memorializes the dead, although you can make it just for fun, too, as a keepsake for a trip, wedding, or something with special meaning to you. It’s a great way to get rid (and keep) all those little trinkets in drawers along with old buttons, beads, bits and pieces of items that resonate with you and that you can’t bear to throw away.
Bring any size object like a jug, glass Ball jar, pitcher, planter, box along with other trinkets you would like to use up – anything you would like to put on your piece. Keep in mind the size of your jug and number of trinkets so it can all fill your chosen object. Bring shards of china, glass, shells, old buttons, medals, coins, pins, pieces of jewelry, and anything else that evokes a happy memory and brings a smile to your face. Don’t forget a finial or something small to use on top of your jar.
Materials: jug, bottle, Ball jar, something terra cotta, clay, and or glass. Lots of trinkets, memorabilia, beads, pieces of old clocks, whatever you have around that you can use.
$125 per person; light refreshments will be served.
